Since 2006, the Centre québécois du P.E.N. International has been offering a two months writing residence to Canadian writers or permanent residents who, for one reason or another, live here in exile. For the occasion, we partnered with the Maison de la Littérature de l’Institut Canadien de Québec, a stimulating setting for this residence which includes meetings with other authors and literary events.
Additionally, the Centre co-organises the event Livres comme l’Air with Amnesty International and UNEQ (Québec writers group). The event, which has been running since 2000, pairs imprisoned authors with Quebecois authors and showcases public readings, petitions and events to further raise awareness about the fate of stifled and persecuted authors worldwide. The Quebecois authors also dedicate one of their books to the imprisoned author with whom they are coupled.
